The OPP has released its latest traffic data to remind Ontario drivers of the need to stay alert on the road.
So far this year, police say they’ve responded to over 200 fatal motor vehicle collisions, which have claimed the lives of over 220 people.
Police say that drivers make up the majority of those killed, while passengers and pedestrians account for about a quarter of fatalities.
According to police, speed is the leading factor in preventable road fatalities, followed closely by not wearing a seat belt.
Inattentive drivers and drug or alcohol impaired drivers were also significant factors in preventable road fatalities.
