Ontario reported 658 new confirmed COVID-19 cases this morning (Sunday) with Southwestern Public Health advising of a single new case in Aylmer.
There are now 16 ongoing cases in the health unit’s reporting area with four in Tillsonburg, three in St. Thomas, two each in Ingersoll, Norwich and Aylmer, and single occurrences in West Elgin, East Zorra-Tavistock and Woodstock.
Half of the cases involve individuals under the age of 50.
The staff case at Caressant Care on Mary Bucke remains active.
The number of resolved cases holds at 270.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 179 tests Thursday. And, as of Oct. 4 (the latest figures available), the positivity rate was 0.2 per cent in the health unit’s coverage area.
The health unit notes per cent positivity less than 5 per cent suggests there are few undetected cases in the community.
The area has recorded five deaths since the pandemic began (the last reported death was July 3) while 3,046 have died across the province.
