On a day when Ontario is reporting 1,042 new cases of COVID-19 – the highest daily count since the pandemic began – Southwestern Public Health is advising there are three new cases this morning (Sunday) in its coverage area and two resolved.
All of the new cases are in Woodstock and the resolved cases are in St. Thomas and Ingersoll.
There are now 19 ongoing cases, with eight in Woodstock, six in Aylmer, two in Ingersoll and single cases in St. Thomas, Tillsonburg and Blandford-Blenheim.
One individual is currently hospitalized in ICU.
There is an ongoing case involving a staff member at Chartwell Long-Term Care Residence in Aylmer.
Twelve of the cases involve individuals under the age of 50.
The number of resolved cases climbs to 284.
Back to the provincial numbers, today’s spike comes two weeks after Thanksgiving and it is the first time since the pandemic began the province has recorded in excess of 1,000 cases.
The province reports nearly 38,800 tests were completed. Locally, there are 309 new cases in Toronto, 289 in Peel, 117 in York Region, 80 in Ottawa and 52 in Durham. There are 736 more resolved cases.
