As people prepare for the end of Daylight Saving Time this Sunday, the St. Thomas Fire Department is hoping people will also use this time to check their smoke alarms.
The time change will occur this Sunday (Nov 1) at 2 a.m., meaning everyone must turn their clocks back an hour.
Although many clocks including cellphones, tablets, and computers will most likely change automatically, antilog clocks, watches, ovens, and microwaves may need to be changed by hand.
Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun says this is the perfect time to inspect your homes smoke alarms.
Destun advises when smoke alarms should be replaced.
This time also serves as a good reminder for homeowners to get all fuel-burning appliances inspected to prevent CO leaks as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week takes place from November 1st-7th.
The community is reminded that if they do not have working smoke alarms and need either technical or financial assistance in making sure their homes are properly equipped, to reach out to the St. Thomas Fire Department.
