The Town of Aylmer has declared a State of Emergency in advance of Saturday’s Freedom Rally – the second in less than a month. Several hundred people are expected to attend what is being described as a peaceful family friendly event to protest COVID-19 restrictions that trample personal rights. Aylmer Police Chief Zvonko Horvat says their responsibility is to maintain peace and order.
Horvat adds it is important for police to engage with the community.
The concern of residents and local businesses is a potential spike in COVID-19 cases as a result of the influx of people from outside the area who do not believe in wearing masks. And, the impression Aylmer is not a safe place to visit and shop.
