Ontario Premier Doug Ford has announced broadband funding for communities across the province. Ford says they are announcing close to $1-billion to improve high-speed internet and cell service.
Ford says 12% of Ontario or 1.4-million people do not have access to high-speed internet.
The funding is in addition to 315-million dollars in financial support that was earlier announced — bringing the total investment over six years to nearly one-billion dollars.
The provincial government says in a statement that the funding will create jobs and connect unserved and underserved communities during COVID-19 and beyond.
