In the past 11 years, John Gignac and his Hawkins-Gignac Foundation for Carbon Monoxide Education have donated 15,000 carbon monoxide detectors to those in need.
The foundation is in memory of OPP constable Laurie Hawkins, her husband Richard and their two children Cassie and Jordan who died by accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in their Woodstock home.
John Gignac was in St. Thomas Tuesday to donate 30 CO detectors to the fire department.
St. Thomas Fire Chief Bob Davidson notes out of a tragedy comes some good.
The hope of donations like these are to help ensure such a tragedy never happens again in Canada.
