The 5th annual Smiles for Seniors Gift Drive has officially begun and the need for donations is greater now more than ever.
Bill Marlatt and his wife Sherry began collecting gifts for seniors in retirement homes throughout Elgin County 5 years ago, as a way to bring some joy to the residents during Christmas time.
Bill says the support has continued to grow over the past 5 years.
He says it has already been such a hard year for seniors as a results the COVID-19 pandemic but he’s hopeful they’ll be able to bring some smiles for the holidays.
Bill adds that it’s not just the seniors in the community who benefit from the gift drive.
The Smile for Seniors Gift Drive will be running until December 11th, to allow time for items to be quarantined before Christmas.
Donations can include items such as socks with grips, slippers, large print books, games, and puzzles, as well as many toiletry items such as roll on deodorant and lotion.
They will also be accepting gift card donations that will then be used to purchased some needed items towards the end of the campaign.
Those wishing to make a donation to help put a smile on a senior’s face this holiday season can do so by dropping gifts off at one of the following locations…
