Calling it a huge bonus, Aylmer Mayor Mary French said another piece of the affordable housing puzzle in her town is beginning to fall into place. This morning (Tuesday) Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek announced $1.5 million in provincial funding for a 23-unit apartment complex on Brown Street.
Yurek noted construction of the apartment is a partnership between the province, the City of St. Thomas and developer Walter Ostojic and Sons. Mayor French said the new housing will have a significant positive impact.
In 2019, the Town of Aylmer approachedĀ Walter Ostojic and Sons about building a second affordable housing unit, adjacent to the 23-unit apartment they constructed 10 years ago. Peter Ostojic noted his family is committed to affordable housing.
Ostojic added, the vacant lot at 59 Brown Street is serviced and now it is just a matter of taking out a permit and digging a hole.
Yurek advised twelve units will be designated affordable housing and priced at 20 per cent below market rent.
