Health Minister Christine Elliott says people shouldn’t count on all of Ontario being in the least restrictive green zone of its COVID-19 response system by the holidays.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams said Monday that it could happen if everyone follows public health guidelines to get rising cases under control.
But Elliot said Tuesday that Williams was being “very optimistic.”
She also said guidance for holiday celebrations is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
As far as a return to the classroom following the holiday season, Ontario students may be absent from in-school learning for an extended period to help in slowing the spread of the coronavirus.
A group representing school board C-E-Os has proposed resuming classes online so that students and staff can isolate following holiday celebrations.
Time away from class at the beginning of January is one of the options Education Minister Stephen Lecce is exploring.
He says no decisions have been made and he will announce a plan this month to allow parents to prepare.
