Following the announcement Thursday afternoon approximately 150 employees of GKN Sinter in St. Thomas will be losing their jobs, the focus now has to turn to assisting those workers and their families, stresses Sean Dyke, CEO of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation.
Dyke adds, in spite of the closure announcement, the manufacturing outlook is quite positive for the city.
Could a new manufacturer be attracted to the 200,000-square-foot-plant on Michigan Boulevard? Dyke feels confident that is possible.
Dyke says there has been plenty of interest in the Sle-co plant which closed this past winter.
The 200,000 square foot plant on Michigan Boulevard was originally the home of Clevite dating back to the 1950s.
