A 31-year-old St. Thomas man faces a variety of charges following an online investigation by the St. Thomas Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
Officers from the Street Crimes Unit arrested Matthew James Covil yesterday (Tuesday) during a search warrant at his residence. A brief struggle ensued and he kicked in a door at his apartment. A small quantity of crystal meth was also found in his possession.
He is charged with charged two counts each of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, resisting arrest, mischief to property, drug possession and breach of probation. At the time of his arrest he had a lifetime ban on using the internet or any other digital network.
He was held for a court appearance and a publication ban on evidence is now in effect.
