Downtown merchants are very much abiding by the COVID-19 restrictions under the Reopening Ontario Act. That’s the finding after last week’s coronavirus education campaign undertaken by city police, bylaw officers and Southwestern Public Health. Police corporate communications officer Tanya Calvert says there were no infractions and only one warning issued and a repeat campaign is unlikely.
Calvert added, the results are a true indicator downtown merchants care about the health and safety of staff and customers.
The aim of the campaign was not to intimidate business owners, stressed Calvert.
She added some directions given to local outlets by corporate head offices did not align with the current restrictions in this area.
Calvert noted city merchants, especially small business owners, had outstanding COVID-19 safety protocols in place.
