Ontario reported 3,363 new COVID-19 cases this morning along with 2,476 on Friday. Southwestern Public Health, meantime, is reporting 18 new cases yesterday and 75 this morning – another single-day record – with 40 cases resolved over the two days. Since Thursday, there have been 14 new cases in St. Thomas, 8 in Aylmer, four in Bayham, three in Malahide and one in Central Elgin. One death was reported and there now have been 14 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began.
There are 345 confirmed ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 89 in Tillsonburg, 66 in St. Thomas, 49 in Aylmer, 40 in Woodstock, 34 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 16 in Norwich, 12 in Bayham, eight in Zorra, six in Ingersoll, five in Central Elgin, Southwold and Blandford-Blenheim, four in SW Oxford and three each in Malahide and West Elgin.
Currently 19 people are hospitalized with six of those individuals in the ICU.
Forty-two residents and 27 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 32 residents and 21 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff at Chartwell in Aylmer, two staff at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, five staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, three staff at Bethany Care Home in Norwich, two residents at Elgin Manor in Southwold and one staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock.
One hundred and seventy-five of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 46 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,018.
There are 164.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 132.2 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 578.3 cases per 100,000 population and 3,457 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 271 tests on Wednesday.
