The OPP’s Highway Safety Division have laid a shocking number of charges so far this year, during a time when residents have been ordered to stay home except for essential purposes.
From January 1st until January 4th, the OPP laid 79 Impaired Driving Charges and 33 Stunt Driving charges.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says these aren’t just speeding charges either.
Schmidt adds that the number of chargers laid was even greater over the holidays, beginning December 20th.
He says with a new year now upon us, it’s time for drivers to make a change.
Schmidt says they have been taking about 10 people off OPP patrolled roads each day for Stunt Driving, with 3 times the amount being charged for Impaired Operation.
