The provincial government has rejected a request for an extension from those leading an inquiry into the deadly spread of COVID-19 in long-term care homes.
The commissioners wrote to Long-Term Care minister Merrilee Fullerton last month asking to be given until the end of this year to complete their work.
They cited delays in receiving government information relevant to the inquiry and the large amounts of data being collected.
But Fullerton says the inquiry’s final report is still expected by April 30th because the need for focused advice is acute.
As of Monday, 84 residents and 71 staff at eight long-term care homes in the Southwestern Public Health coverage area are in isolation with the coronavirus.
