A 34-year-old Sparta man has been charged with causing a disturbance during last Sunday’s drive-in service at Aylmer’s Church of God. He approached the stage on church property and used a megaphone to disrupt the service by shouting obscenities and refusing to leave when directed. Aylmer Police Chief Zvonko Horvat stresses the Church has the right to hold the service as long as they are in compliance with all emergency orders.
Horvat is concerned with the growing number of people from outside the area showing up each week.
With attendees at Sunday’s service remaining in their vehicles and abiding by other COVID-19 restrictions, Horvat says that is a positive sign he hopes is repeated at upcoming services.
He estimates more than half of those in attendance for the service and to counter demonstrate the service were not from the Aylmer area.
