Ontario reported 3,128 new COVID-19 cases today while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 67 new cases this morning, with 59 cases resolved. There were 14 new cases in St. Thomas, eight in Aylmer, five in Bayham and three in Central Elgin. Seven deaths were recorded and there have now been 23 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began. The deaths are in a pair of long-term care homes in Tillsonburg and Tavistock which have outbreaks.
There are 402 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 107 in Tillsonburg, 74 in St. Thomas, 50 in Woodstock, 48 in Aylmer, 32 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 20 in Norwich, 15 in Bayham, 11 in SW Oxford and Zorra, eight in Central Elgin and Ingersoll, six in Southwold, five in Blandford-Blenheim, four in West Elgin and three in Malahide.
Currently 19 people are hospitalized with six of those individuals in the ICU.
Fifty-four residents and 34 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 32 residents and 24 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff at Chartwell in Aylmer, two staff at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, five staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, three staff at Bethany Care Home in Norwich, two residents at Elgin Manor in Southwold and one staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock.
Two hundred and three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 59 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,112.
There are 190.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 160.8 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 675.9 cases per 100,000 population and 3,683.9 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 236 tests on Sunday.
