A house fire at 241 Forest Ave Tuesday night has sadly claimed the life of a family dog says the St. Thomas Fire Department.
At approximately 10:05 p.m., fire crews were called to the home where all occupants had evacuated safely when smoke alarms in their home sounded, allowing them time to escape. An investigation found the cause of fire to be improperly discarded smoking materials in the home.
The STFD says the fire was extinguished quickly by crews, however the home suffered significant smoke and water damage.
Unfortunately even after firefighter’s attempts to resuscitate it, the family dog was lost in the fire.
STFD reminds everyone that smoke alarms save lives and to test them regularly and replace any that are older than 10 years.
