Ontario reported 3,519 new COVID-19 cases today – another one-day record – while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 21 new cases this morning, with 67 cases resolved.
There were two new cases in St. Thomas, three in Aylmer and one each in Central Elgin and West Elgin.
Five new deaths were reported – four of them in long-term care homes – bringing the total to 28 since the pandemic began.
There are 356 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 98 in Tillsonburg, 63 in St. Thomas, 47 in Woodstock, 38 in Aylmer, 25 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 18 in Norwich, 14 in Bayham, 12 in Zorra, 11 in Ingersoll, nine in SW Oxford, seven in Central Elgin, five in Blandford-Blenheim, four in West Elgin, two each in Malahide and Southwold and one in Dutton-Dunwich.
Currently 16 people are hospitalized with three of those individuals in the ICU.
Fifty-seven residents and 41 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 34 residents and 29 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff at Chartwell in Aylmer, two staff at Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, four staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, one staff member each at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock and Goodness Retirement Living in St. Thomas and one resident each at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas and Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich.
One hundred and eighty-two of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 51 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,226.
There are 168.3 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 191.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region.
The crude rate for St. Thomas is 161.9 cases per 100,000 population and 507.2 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 236 tests on Tuesday.
