As of Monday, the province said 1,563 people are hospitalized with the coronavirus, of which 387 are in an ICU unit and 268 are on ventilators.
President and CEO Robert Biron says the ICU at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is close to full capacity at this time.
Biron explains, in total there are 14 ICU beds at the hospital with eight of those at Level 3, for the most critical patients.
This area is most often used for ventilated patients.
Biron adds the hospital has just received three additional ventilators that will be placed in service.
As was the case back in the spring, increased pressures on the healthcare system will lead to cancellation of elective surgeries.
