With many Ontarians still confused at what the Provinces Stay-At-Home Order means for them, the St. Thomas Police Service is making it clear what you can expect from them in terms of enforcement.
Police Chris Herridge said in a statement that the STPS continues to support the Ontario Government in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 and in an effort to maintain the health and safety of every citizen in St. Thomas, officers will enforce the Stay-At-Home Order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
Having said that, Herridge notes that officers will not be stopping pedestrians, vehicles or entering dwellings for the singular purpose of checking compliance with the order.
Instead, they will continue to prioritize emergency response by deferring pandemic related complaints to City of St. Thomas by-law enforcement and Public Health Inspectors, unless it is determined that the police are the most appropriate agency to address the situation.
He adds that all complaints will be followed up and individuals who have violated restrictions may be fined.
