The province’s new enforcement blitz found numerous violations of COVID-19 prevention protocols at big-box retailers in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas this weekend.
Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says 50 inspectors visited 110 retailers on Saturday alone and found 31 violations, amounting to a compliance rate of just over 70 per cent.
McNaughton says the inspectors issued 11 warnings and 11 tickets, adding he had hoped the compliance rate would be much higher.
He also says the scope of the blitz will be broadened to include the rest of the province in the weeks ahead.
Names of stores and locations found to be in violation were not released.
