Ontario reported 1,913 new COVID-19 cases today with 46 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 31 new cases this morning, with 65 cases resolved. Two new deaths were reported – an 88-year-old female and 62-year-old female, both of Elgin county – bringing the total to 47 since the pandemic began. Neither case is linked to a long-term care or retirement home.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region is 36 per day.
There are six new cases in Aylmer and four in St. Thomas.
There are 346 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 87 in Tillsonburg, 52 in St. Thomas, 43 in Woodstock, 41 in Norwich, 38 in Aylmer, 21 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 13 in Ingersoll, 11 in Bayham and Zorra, nine in SW Oxford, eight in Southwold, six in Central Elgin, three in West Elgin, two in Malahide and one in Blandford-Blenheim.
Currently 12 people are hospitalized with four of those individuals in the ICU.
Eighty-three residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 40 residents and 37 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and one staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two staff members at Extendicare in Port Stanley, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, five staff and 13 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock and Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg and one staff member at Harvest Crossing in Tillsonburg.
One hundred and sixty-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 39 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,706.
There are 163.6 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 284.9 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 133.6 cases per 100,000 population and 507.2 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 117 tests on Sunday.
