Ontario reported 2,417 new COVID-19 cases today with 50 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 40 new cases this morning, with 12 cases resolved. One new death was reported and it was not at a long-term care facility.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region is down to 25 per day.
There are seven new cases in Aylmer and six in St. Thomas.
There are 267 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 63 in Tillsonburg, 46 in Woodstock, 37 in Norwich, 35 in St. Thomas, 27 in Aylmer, 13 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 11 in Ingersoll, eight in Bayham, six in Central Elgin and SW Oxford, five in Southwold and Zorra, three in Malahide and one in Dutton-Dunwich and West Elgin.
Currently 12 people are hospitalized with four of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 42.4% were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 46 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, five staff and 13 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock and Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 17 residents and one staff member at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold and Harvest Crossing in Tillsonburg.
One hundred and twenty-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 32 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,892.
There are 126.2 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 307.4 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 90.0 cases per 100,000 population and 360.4 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 223 tests on Thursday.
