Ontario reported 1,958 new COVID-19 cases today with 43 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting just nine new cases this morning, with 26 cases resolved. It’s the lowest one-day count since Christmas Day. One new death was reported, a female Elgin resident in her 60’s. The death count is now 54, with the average age being 81 years old.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region is down to 22 per day.
There are 249 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 60 in Tillsonburg, 45 in Woodstock, 33 in Norwich, 30 in St. Thomas, 26 in Aylmer, 13 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 11 in Ingersoll, six in Bayham and SW Oxford, five in Southwold, four in Central Elgin and Zorra, three in Malahide, two in West Elgin and one in Dutton-Dunwich.
Currently nine people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 42.4% were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 46 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, five staff and 13 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock and Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 16 residents and two staff member at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold and Harvest Crossing in Tillsonburg.
One hundred and nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 26 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,918.
There are 117.7 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 310.7 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 77.1 cases per 100,000 population and 347.0 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 116 tests Saturday.
