Ontario reported 1,740 new COVID-19 cases today with 63 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 13 new cases this morning, with 31 cases resolved. One new death was reported, a male Elgin resident in his 60’s, not related to a long-term care home. The death count is now 55.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region is down to 19 per day.
There are 230 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 57 in Tillsonburg, 45 in Woodstock, 27 St. Thomas, Aylmer and in Norwich, 11 in East Zorra-Tavistock, 10 in Ingersoll, seven in Bayham and SW Oxford, five in Southwold, four in Zorra, three in Malahide, two in Central Elgin and West Elgin and one in Southwold.
Currently nine people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 41.9 % were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, five staff and 13 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock and Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 19 residents and three staff member at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold and Harvest Crossing in Tillsonburg.
Ninety-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 22 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 1,949.
There are 108.7 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 309.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 69.4 cases per 100,000 population and 360.4 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 109 tests on Sunday.
