Ontario reported 1,670 new COVID-19 cases today with 49 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting just six new cases this morning, with 52 cases resolved. This is the lowest one day case count since Nov. 24. No deaths were reported over the past 24 hours.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region is down to 18 per day.
There are 184 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 39 in Tillsonburg, 37 in Woodstock, 25 St. Thomas, 23 in Aylmer and Norwich, 12 in East Zorra-Tavistock, eight in Ingersoll, six in Bayham, four in SW Oxford, two in Malahide and West Elgin and one each in Central Elgin, Southwold and Zorra.
Currently nine people are hospitalized with two of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 41.9 % were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, five staff and 13 residents at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock and Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 19 residents and three staff member at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold and Harvest Crossing in Tillsonburg.
Seventy-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 18 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,001.
There are 87.0 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 309.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 25.0 cases per 100,000 population and 309.1 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 240 tests on Monday.
