Ontario reported 2,093 new COVID-19 cases today with 56 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 24 new cases this morning, with 20 cases resolved. One death was reported, a female Oxford resident in her 90s at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich. The death toll is 56 since the pandemic began.
There were two new cases in St. Thomas and one in Dutton-Dunwich.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region remains at 18 per day.
There are 187 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 53 in Woodstock, 23 in Norwich, 20 in St. Thomas, 17 in Aylmer, 12 in East Zorra-Tavistock, six in Ingersoll, five in Bayham and SW Oxford, two in Malahide, West Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim, and one each in Central Elgin, Southwold, Dutton-Dunwich and Zorra.
Currently five people are hospitalized with one of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 41.9 % were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 29 residents and five staff member at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold.
Seventy-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 17 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,021.
There are 88.4 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 313.3 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 51.4 cases per 100,000 population and 226.9 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 208 tests on Tuesday.
