The future of the Horton Farmers’ Market appears more secure this week with the announcement it will be managed by the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation.
EDC CEO Sean Dyke says this move will allow for the hiring of a year-round manager who will also serve as business advisor.
Under the supervision of the Elgin/St. Thomas Small Business Enterprise Centre and the overall direction of the St. Thomas EDC, the plan is to utilize the full marketing breadth of the organization, through the SBEC and Railway City Tourism, to continue to promote and grow the Market – maintaining its long tradition and ensuring that it remains a true signature experience in the community.
Dyke says this now gives them the ability to help the market to flourish even further.
He adds, there most certainly will be a Horton Market this year with COVID precautions in place.
Mayor Joe Preston says this represents a stronger commitment to celebrating local food and those who produce it.
