Ontario reported 1,837 new COVID-19 cases today with 58 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 11 new cases this morning, with 16 cases resolved. No new deaths were reported.
There was one new case reported in West Elgin.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region remains at 18 per day.
There are 182 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 56 in Woodstock, 35 in Tillsonburg, 22 in Norwich, 20 in St. Thomas, 13 in Aylmer, 12 in East Zorra-Tavistock, five in Ingersoll, four in Bayham and SW Oxford, three in West Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim, two in Zorra and one each in Southwold, Dutton-Dunwich and Malahide.
Currently four people are hospitalized with one of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 41.9 % were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, two residents at Caressant Care Bonnie Place in St. Thomas, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock, Extendicare in Port Stanley and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 35 residents and six staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold.
Sixty-eight of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 16 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,037.
There are 86.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 318.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 51.4 cases per 100,000 population and 173.5 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 212 tests on Wednesday.
