Ontario reported 2,063 new COVID-19 cases today with 73 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 12 new cases this morning, with 32 cases resolved. One new death is reported, a female Elgin county resident in her 80s. The death toll since the pandemic began stands at 57.
There were two new cases in St. Thomas and one each in Aylmer and Bayham.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region drops to 16 per day.
There are 161 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 57 in Woodstock, 21 in Norwich, 19 in St. Thomas, 18 in Tillsonburg, 13 in East Zorra-Tavistock, eight in Aylmer, six in Ingersoll, four in Bayham, three in West Elgin, Blandord-Blenheim, SW Oxford and Zorra, and one each in Southwold, Dutton-Dunwich and Malahide.
Currently five people are hospitalized with one of those individuals in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 41.1 % were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 36 staff at People Care in Tavistock, three staff members at Terrace Lodge in Malahide, two residents and two staff member at Woodingford Lodge in Woodstock, one staff member at Chartwell Oxford Gardens in Woodstock, Extendicare in Port Stanley and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Dayspring Residence in Tillsonburg, 35 residents and eight staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock, and one staff member at Elgin Manor in Southwold.
Sixty-two of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 11 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,069.
There are 76.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 326.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 48.8 cases per 100,000 population and 106.8 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 201 tests on Thursday.
