From the initial announcement to the ground breaking ceremony, myFM has kept you updated on the work Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is doing in our city.
The building of the new semi-detached home at the corner of Scott Street and Hiawatha Street is well underway and we are excited to share that a family has been chosen to become homeowners of the 94.1 myFM home at 92 Scott Street.
Teagan, who is a Personal Support Worker and single mother to her 4 year old son Dante, recently received the news that she would have an opportunity to own her own home thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
She says that the news brought out an array of different emotions.
In April of 2018, Teagan separated from her son’s father and was unable to find affordable housing, which meant she was pretty much living pay cheque to pay cheque. She says this opportunity now ensures a forever home for her son.
Teagan has already put in some of the volunteer hours needed to become a homeowner with Habitat for Humanity, saying it felt amazing to put some work into the place she’s going to call home.
With the new home also comes new neighbours, who have also been given this amazing opportunity from Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario. Shayna, her 2 young children, Jackson and Jordyn as well as their live in babysitter Raige will take ownership of 94 Scott Street.
Teagan says that they’ve already developed a friendship.
Teagan says not only is she excited to start this new journey as a homeowner, but also excited to be joining a new city and community.
She adds that she is eternally grateful to have the opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity, and she can’t say thank you enough.
Teagan says if everything goes as planned, move in day will be April 1st!
