Ontario reported 1,489 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 22 deaths. Meantime, Southwestern Public Health is reporting 12 new cases, with 3 cases resolved. No new deaths have been recorded, with the death toll remaining at 62 since the pandemic began.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region remains at 12 per day.
There are 135 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 76 in Woodstock, 22 in St. Thomas, 12 in Ingersoll, 6 in Norwich, three each in Dutton-Dunwich, Tillsonburg and Zorra, two in Aylmer, Malahide and East Zorra-Tavistock, and one each in West Elgin, Bayham, Central Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim.
Currently five people are hospitalized, none in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 37.7 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Eighty-five residents and 52 staff members at Maple Manor in Tillsonburg have tested positive, with 47 residents and 38 staff at People Care in Tavistock, 1 staff member at Extendicare in Port Stanley and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich and 51 residents and 18 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Forty-nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 12 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,186.
There are 63.8 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 352.3 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 56.5 cases per 100,000 population and 26.7 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 209 tests on Thursday.
