Ontario reported 1,022 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 17 deaths. Meantime, Southwestern Public Health is reporting just two new cases, the lowest case count since Nov. 22. A total of 17 cases were resolved.
Two new deaths were recorded, a male Oxford resident in his 80’s and a female in her 70’s – a resident of Caressant Care in Woodstock – which brings the death toll to 65 since the pandemic began.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region drops to 10 per day.
There are 117 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 72 in Woodstock, 19 in St. Thomas, 11 in Ingersoll, four in Dutton-Dunwich, three in Norwich, two in Zorra, and one each in Aylmer, Bayham, Malahide, West Elgin, Central Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim.
Currently three people are hospitalized, none in the ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 38.7 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
A total of 47 residents and 38 staff have tested positive at People Care in Tavistock, 1 staff member at Extendicare in Port Stanley and Arches Transitional Bed Program in Woodstock, one resident at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich and 51 residents and 18 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Forty-three of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 11 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,209.
There are 55.3 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 356.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 48.8 cases per 100,000 population and 13.3 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 115 tests on Sunday.
