Ontario reported 1,076 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 18 deaths. Meantime, Southwestern Public Health is reporting just two new cases. A total of 12 cases were resolved. There is one new cases in St. Thomas.
No new deaths were recorded and the toll remains at 64 since the pandemic began.
The seven-day rolling average of new cases in the region is down to nine per day.
There are 110 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 71 in Woodstock, 11 in Ingersoll, nine in St. Thomas, seven in Tillsonburg, four in Norwich, two in Dutton-Dunwich and Zorra and one each in Malahide, West Elgin, Central Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim .
Currently one person is hospitalized. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 35.5 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
A total of 47 residents and 38 staff have tested positive at People Care in Tavistock, 1 staff member at Valleyview Home in St. Thomas and Extendicare in Port Stanley, one resident at Trillium Retirement Home in Norwich and 53 residents and 22 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Forty-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 16 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,244.
There are 52.0 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 43.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 23.1 cases per 100,000 population and there are no ongoing cases in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 205 tests on Wednesday.
