The province is reporting 1,038 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 44 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting nine new cases. A total of eight cases were resolved. There were two new cases in St. Thomas and one in Aylmer.
One new death was recorded, a female resident of Oxford County in her 80’s and the toll is now 65 since the pandemic began.
The seven-day rolling average slips to five new cases per day.
There are 61 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area, with 25 in Woodstock, 10 in Tillsonburg and St. Thomas, six in Ingersoll, two in Aylmer, Dutton-Dunwich, Zorra and East Zorra-Tavistock and one each in Malahide and West Elgin.
There are four hospitalizations, two of whom are in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.5 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One staff member at Valleyview Home in St. Thomas has tested positive as has one resident at Aylmer Retirement Residence and 54 residents and 23 staff members at Caressant Care in Woodstock,
Thirty-eight of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 17 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,326.
There are 28.8 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 27.4 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 25.7 cases per 100,000 population and 26.7 per 100,000 in Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 193 tests on Tuesday.
