Elgin county has announced construction on the $35 million Terrace Lodge redevelopment project will begin this week.
The nearly three-year project on the home just east of Aylmer will be undertaken in three phases, explains Bob Purcell, chair of the redevelopment steering committee, and will not disrupt residents or operations in the existing structure.
Purcell says the undertaking will not add to the current 100-bed capacity.
The U-shaped addition will be completed in three stages, allowing for the on-going migration of residents into their new rooms, explains Purcell.
Opened in 1977, Terrace Lodge is operated by the County of Elgin which will receive approximately $20 million in provincial funding spread over a 25-year period.
