St. Thomas ratepayers got a further property tax break Monday when city council approved the new 2021 levy of a 0.31 percent increase.
Council originally had whittled the increase down to 1.5 per cent, however a new growth projection from the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation resulted in a $676,000 revenue surplus for the city.
The city’s finance director Dan Sheridan recommended reducing the property tax levy as the community continues to deal with the pandemic, which council agreed to unanimously.
