For the Blake family of St. Thomas, the first 3 years of life with their twins Jason and Emma has been anything but normal.
When Amy and Andrew Blake adopted the duo back in 2018, they were aware of the struggles Jason might face as a result of his medical issues, but 3 years later, they never could have guess what their little fighter has had to go through.
Amy says Jason was born with a condition called hypoplastic right heart, where parts of the heart are undeveloped.
The excitement of the possibility of his final heart surgery was short lived when Jason suffered unexpected post operative issues.
Because of this, Jason has had to spend the past few weeks at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto with his dad, while Amy continues working as a health care worker in Ingersoll in order to provide for her family.
In addition to all of this, she deals with the daily work commute, the dangers of COVID-19 in her workplace as well as doing her best to even her time with both Jason in Toronto and his twin sister Emma, who is staying with family in St. Thomas.
Amy says that despite the tough journey thus far, there is so much to be grateful for.
Another thing the Blake family is grateful for, the outpouring of support by friends, family and the local community via a GoFundMe page.
