The province is reporting 2,333 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 15 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 18 new cases. Ten cases were resolved.
Sixty-eight of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 12 cases still active.
The death toll is 69 since the pandemic began.
There are 92 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 23 in St. Thomas, 18 in Woodstock, 11 in Ingersoll, eight in Central Elgin, six in SW Oxford and Tillsonburg, four in Malahide and Blandford Blenheim, three in Aylmer and Dutton-Dunwich, two in West Elgin and East Zorra-Tavistock and one each in Bayham and Norwich.
One individual is hospitalized, not in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.1 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Fifty-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 15 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,666.
Through March 20 – the latest data available from the health unit – 6,409 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 4,497 of those having received their first dose.
There are 43.5 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 87.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 59.1 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 40.0 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 278 tests on Monday while the West Elgin Community Centre did 34 tests.
