Ontario may be moving into another provincial shutdown this weekend.
Several sources have learned Ontario is expected to announce a 28-day provincewide “shutdown” today amid an alarming spike in cases, in variants, and in admissions to hospital intensive care units.
Ontario reported over 23-hundred new COVID cases yesterday and hit a new high for the number of COVID patients in I-C-U’s, at 421.
Premier Doug Ford’s Conservative cabinet met with the province’s top doctor last night to discuss tightening restrictions.
It is expected to be very similar to the previous shutdown when it comes to businesses operating, such as restrictions on indoor dining and personal care services.
In preparation, the Thames Valley District School Board has asked that students take home technology/computing devices, learning materials and any required personal items such as eyeglasses and running shoes in the event of a switch to online learning during the shutdown.
Ford is slated to make his announcement at 1:30 p.m. alongside Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health, and Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, Co-Chair of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table .
