The province is reporting 2,557 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 23 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 8 new cases. Ten cases were resolved. There was one new case in Malahide and another in West Elgin.
Seventy-five of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 17 cases still active.
The death toll is 69 since the pandemic began.
There are 90 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 21 in Woodstock, 20 in St. Thomas, nine in Ingersoll, seven in Central Elgin and Tillsonburg, six in SW Oxford, five in Malahide, four in Blandford-Blenheim, three in West Elgin and Dutton-Dunwich, two in Aylmer and one each in Bayham, East Zorra-Tavistock and Zorra.
One individual is hospitalized, not in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.1 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Fifty-one of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 16 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,676.
Through March 20 – the latest data available from the health unit – 6,409 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 4,497 of those having received their first dose.
There are 42.6 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 99.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 51.4 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 26.7 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 277 tests on Tuesday.
