Southwestern Public Health is reporting 63 new COVID-19 cases since the last update on Thursday. Thirty-eight cases were resolved. There were 12 new cases in St. Thomas, six in Aylmer and one each in Bayham, Dutton-Dunwich, Southwold and Malahide.
Eighty-one of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 17 cases still active.
The death toll is 69 since the pandemic began.
There are 115 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 33 in Woodstock, 23 in St. Thomas, 14 in Ingersoll, 12 in Tillsonburg, eight in Aylmer, three in Central Elgin, Malahide, Dutton-Dunwich, East Zorra-Tavistock and Zorra, two in Bayham, West Elgin, Blandford-Blenheim and Norwich and one each in Southwold and SW Oxford.
One resident and one staff member at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive.
Three individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.6 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Sixty-nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 23 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,714.
Through March 27 – the latest data available from the health unit – 11,549 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 9,577 of those having received their first dose.
There are 54.4 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 144.2 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 59.1 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 106.8 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 277 tests on Tuesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre conducted 49 tests Wednesday.
