Flag raisings are a staple at St. Thomas City Hall, and the poll where the Autism Awareness flag now flies was the very spot the movement began.
Shari Bishop of St. Thomas explains how the beginning of flag raisings for World Autism Awareness Day started right here in our own city 10 years ago.
Bishop began the tradition for her daughters Bailey and Riley as a way to promote awareness about autism and how it is different from one person to the next.
She and her daughter joined Mayor Joe Preston and other representatives at Thursday’s flag raising ceremony at St. Thomas City Hall.
World Autism Awareness Day is recognized on April 2nd but is being celebrated today (April 6th) to coincide with the Easter long weekend.
