The province is reporting 4,447 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 19 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 57 new cases since Friday. Sixty-five cases were resolved.
There are fifteen new cases in St. Thomas, two in Bayham and Central Elgin, and one each in Aylmer and Dutton-Dunwich.
The death toll remains at 72 since the pandemic began.
Two hundred and seventy of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 89 cases still active.
There are 190 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 70 in St. Thomas, 40 in Woodstock, 24 in Tillsonburg, nine in Norwich, seven in Bayham, East Zorra-Tavistock and Blandford-Blenheim, six in Ingersoll and Zorra, five in Central Elgin, three in Aylmer, two in Dutton-Dunwich and Malahide and one each in Southwold and SW Oxford.
Three residents and two staff members at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive as have two staff at Metcalfe Gardens in St. Thomas.
Five individuals are hospitalized, none of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.0 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and twenty-nine of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 45 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,935.
Through April 3 – the latest data available from the health unit – 23,554 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 21,537 of those having received their first dose.
There are 89.8 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 228.4 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 179.9 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 40.0 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 245 tests on Friday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 55 on Thursday.
