The province is reporting 3,469 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 22 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 12 new cases. Nineteen cases were resolved. There was one new death, a St. Thomas man in his 70s, which brings the death toll to 73 since the pandemic began.
There are five new cases in St. Thomas and one in Aylmer.
Two hundred and ninety-four of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 97 cases still active.
There are 182 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 67 in St. Thomas, 37 in Woodstock, 25 in Tillsonburg, 10 in Norwich, seven in East Zorra-Tavistock and Zorra, six in Bayham and Ingersoll, five in Central Elgin, four in Blandford-Blenheim, three in Aylmer, two in Malahide, and one each in Dutton-Dunwich, Southwold and SW Oxford.
Three residents and two staff members at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive.
Four individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34.5 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and twenty-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 43 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,954.
Through April 3 – the latest data available from the health unit – 23,554 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 21,537 of those having received their first dose.
There are 86.1 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 218.1 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 172.2 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 40.0 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 215 tests on Sunday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 55 on Thursday.
