The province is reporting 4,212 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 32 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 28 new cases. Twenty-one cases were resolved. There was one new death, a St. Thomas man in his 70s, which brings the death toll to 74 since the pandemic began.
There are 10 new cases in St. Thomas, two in Dutton-Dunwich and one each in Aylmer, Malahide and Bayham.
Three hundred and seven of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 89 cases still active.
There are 188 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 69 in St. Thomas, 44 in Woodstock, 28 in Tillsonburg, nine in Norwich, six in Aylmer, Bayham and Zorra, four in Blandford-Blenheim and East Zorra-Tavistock, three in Central Elgin, Dutton-Dunwich and Ingersoll, two in Malahide and one in SW Oxford.
Three residents and two staff members at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive.
Five individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 35 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and thirty-four of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 47 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 2,975.
Through April 3 – the latest data available from the health unit – 23,554 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 21,537 of those having received their first dose.
There are 88.9 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 209.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 177.3 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 80.1 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 281 tests on Monday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 36 on Monday.
