Thanks to funds received through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the STEAM Education Centre is preparing to build an audiovisual production technology-based studio for St. Thomas.
The studio will be used to help enrich the lives of the local community by providing a space where further art and technology education can be explored.
Students from groups including Ignite Youth Centre, and members of the community will be able to access the space and use it to create videos and podcasts, as well as explore other digital technologies.
The $31,700 Capital Grant was announced by MPP Jeff Yurek during an online launching event.
Yurek stated “I am very proud that the Ontario government, through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, is supporting the exciting things happening at the STEAM Education Centre. Having a safe place for youth to learn and explore in St. Thomas is an asset to our community and I look forward to seeing all the creative ways these tools are used.”
“Students love to make and create to demonstrate what they’re learning. The creative process is also about giving students tools to construct a variety of emerging technologies to learn through experience. This Capital grant from OTF will give students an opportunity to create their own expressions, build meaning, work through problems, and acquire new knowledge and skills in context,” added Jessica Gransaull, Executive Director STEAM Education Centre.
