The province is reporting 3,510 new COVID-19 cases this morning with 24 deaths while Southwestern Public Health is reporting 65 new cases since Friday. Sixty-four cases were resolved.
There are 12 new cases in St. Thomas, four in Aylmer, two in Central Elgin and Dutton-Dunwich and one in Bayham.
The death toll sits at 76 since the pandemic began.
Three hundred and fifty-two of the confirmed cases involve variants of concern, with 50 cases still active.
There are 160 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 44 in St. Thomas, 43 in Woodstock, 20 in Tillsonburg, 14 in Ingersoll, seven in Aylmer, six in Dutton-Dunwich, five in Bayham and Norwich, four in Blandford-Blenheim and Zorra, two in Central Elgin, West Elgin and SW Oxford and one each in Malahide and East Zorra-Tavistock.
Three residents and two staff members at Caressant Care, Bonnie Place in St. Thomas have tested positive.
Six individuals are hospitalized, one of those in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 34 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and twenty-two of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, of those 44 are under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 3,104.
Through April 17 – the latest data available from the health unit – 32,229 individuals have been vaccinated by SWPH, with 30,158 of those having received their first dose.
There are 75.7 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 195.3 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 113.1 cases per 100,000 population and Aylmer has 93.4 cases per 100,000.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 128 tests on Saturday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 41 last Wednesday.
